Suggestions for BP: Forget Your Brand Image and Concentrate on Your Brand’s Soul

Brand channel (Interbrand’s online project), suggests two fundamental positions. Yes and no. Yes brands now need to focus on making green and sustainablity fundamental to their DNA, (What many of us have been doing since the beginning), not generating BIG marketing hype about how green they are. And No, now is the time communicate to consumers and end users exactly what they are doing to become more sustainable. Read the full article here http://www.brandchannel.com/forum.asp?bd_id=126

Congratulations to Dr Linda Adele Schultz

On successfully defending her dissertation and becoming Pacifica Graduate Institute’s newest alumni. I am gratetful for the many years of dialog and insight Dr Schultz and I participated in, while at Pacifica.

DISSERTATION TITLE: “The First Bite: An Archetypal Exploration of the Initial Impulse in Compulsive Eating”

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this dissertation is to explore a particular moment in compulsive eating I term the “first bite phenomenon.” In essence, it is comprised of an archetypal energy within an autonomous complex that, when activated, overpowers the ego. This results in an abduction where the sufferer acquiesces, submitting to a literal first bite of food that begins a cycle of compulsive, or emotional, eating.

Many small business now have a Facebook or Twitter page!

Is your site working to expand your company brand or reach, is the site driving social interaction? If not, it should be.

With the advent of Web 3.0 properties using advanced feed systems such as a live stream of activities shared on social networks like Facebook and Twitter—customers and potential customers can more easily rely on trusted personal connections in order to determine who is a good company to work with or not. Your online reputation is critical to your small business success. The conclusion: referral traffic and recommendations of products, and services is as significant from social networks as it is from search engines, making Social the next Search.

Congratulations to alumnus Dr. Connie Poppino for receiving a Heroes in Healthcare award (from Ingram’s magazine) for her work in with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Kansas City area. Click here to read more about the award and her work. Visit the Ingram website here. To learn more about other alumni and the stories that bind us together as a culture, please visit our Depth Stories web site put together by Dr. Jennifer Selig, my professor in Research Methodolgies. You can also follow via Twitter. The background of this page has a great shot of the main campus, (Pacifica Graduate Institute), I spent years on.

The newest alumni, Dr. Linda Schultz, (my classmate from 2001 to 2004), recently defended her dissertation, read about her original research at http://www.depthstories.com/LindaSchultzDefense.html

CNBC reported on April 13 2010 that Twitter officially launched a new business plan in order to monetize their site

Finally the previously Ad-free service will be promoting tweets from various companies, including Starbucks, Virgin America, Sony Pictures and Red Bull. So this means according to Biz Stone (Co-founder of Twitter), on his blog, “Promoted Tweets will be clearly labeled as “promoted” when an advertiser is paying, but in every other respect they will first exist as regular Tweets and will be organically sent to the timelines of those who follow a brand. Promoted Tweets will also retain all the functionality of a regular Tweet including replying, Retweeting, and favoriting. Only one Promoted Tweet will be displayed on the search results page.”
Promoted Tweets end up right on top of a search pile so search for something like ‘coffee’ on twitter will take you to the promoted tweet by Starbucks right on top of the search result.
We can observe that  Starbucks is certainly doing well with most promoted tweets being Re-tweeted by the hundreds. Mashable finds that Virgin America is capitalizing on “Red hot Tweets” with their offers.
think Alchemy however recognizes that it will only be a matter of time before we can have a better picture as to how effective a Reputation Management Tool this can be in the future.
Content is King for Twitter and for now promoted tweets will only appear on top of searches based on relevant searches and will remain there and not disappear into oblivion as new tweets come up.
Imagine Toyota buying in for a promoted tweet offering a free electronic  upgrade for the 2009 Prius that delivers an extra 10 miles per gallon, or some other useful information on the Prius  recall.

Why have thinkAlchemy add a blog to your website.

When we talk to our clients, most of them are small to medium size law firms across the United States about their  online marketing needs, we often get asked about why we recommend that a component of their search optimization strategy must include a legal blog. They are like the old fashioned email newsletter. Newsletter s has an important role because they allowed you to keep in touch with your current customers and your potential customers.

Adding a blog means you can rip themes from the headlines and hook into the search traffic the news has generated. It means your potential customers know you are “on the ball,” and with “the times.” We know many websites that have not updated their web pages , and hence are being dinged by the search engine bots, A blog can help mitigate this issue..

Blogs allow your company to be viewed as “fresh” especially helpful when it comes to search engine optimization. Google gives a site a higher relevance factor when the bots see “fresh” content. Your site will will get an extra boost in search engine rankings, which in turn tends to bring in more website traffic, and hence, qualified leads.

Dr Michael Glock interacts with Focus Group and Dr Davinia Thornley

I spent a couple of hours in a focus group with Dr Davinia Thornely, Senior lecturer, Department of Media, Film & Communication from Otago Univeristy, New Zealand, on Saturday We discussed landscape and identity as perceived by Kiwi’s living in Los Angeles as seen through New Zealand Films. A bright and clever group with fascinating insights. We discussed the many underlying currents and the mythological aspects that allow the production and dissemination of wisdom stories into the world. One of the compelling movies in my mind is Roger Donaldson, The World’s Fastest Indian (2005). He is an Australian-born New Zealand film producer, director and writer who has made numerous successful movies. He was a co-founder of the New Zealand Film Commission. I could not help but also mention the work of David Blyth’s Angel Mine (http://www.davidblyth.com/page.php?selected=angelmine2)  and his ongoing and fascinating articulation of the repressed shadow within culture, particularly New Zealand Culture.

It was a pleasure to meet fellow New Zealanders living in Los Angeles, Nick Divehall, A Global account manager for Autodesk, Craig Dawson who is focused on Xtreme Sports Insurance, Stephanie Paul a comic and actress and Angela Best from marketingtourguide.com
